Denny Park Apartments

The greening of affordable housing

The Denny Park Apartments is a six-story mixed-use building in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighborhood. The project was among the first in sustainable low-income housing and the first to receive funding under the national Green Communities Initiative. A collaborative process including the owner, contractor and design consultants resulted in an environmentally-friendly and economical design. There are  innovative planters on the rooftop deck that manage stormwater runoff and create a pleasant greenspace in an urban environment. Other design elements include durable, low-maintenance materials with recycled content, energy-efficient lighting, and a space-efficient design that maximizes passive heating and cooling.
