Case Study: Urban Mixed-Use

Block 47

Block 47 is a quarter-block project located in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighborhood along a rapidly developing corridor. The Olmsted Brothers’ Denny Park is kitty corner and serves as the primary design reference point for the building. A desire to connect Block 47 to the park influences the street level spaces and materiality of the exterior design. Wood-tone vertical cladding meanders up the Southwest corner façade, inspired by Denny Park’s mature trees. Heavily landscaped large curb bulbs and a heavily planted canopy encourage lingering through the seasons. Inspired by boutique hotel design, well-crafted, urban residential units, common spaces, and a high level of detailing are highlighted throughout the building.
